(Kansas City, Mo.) Billy Butler has received one of Kansas City’s ultimate compliments….having a BBQ sandwich named after him. Zarda BBQ has created the “Billy’s Ton of BBQ” Sandwich in honor of Hit it a Ton, Billy’s food and fund raising campaign that benefits Bishop Sullivan Center’s food pantries and community kitchen. For a fifth baseball season, Billy and his wife Katie will donate a ton of food (a $250 donation) every time Billy hits a home run, and a half ton ($125) for every double.

Last year, Billy and Katie donated the equivalent of 40 tons of food for Billy’s 19 home runs and 44 doubles. In February, Billy received the prestigious Hutch Award for his work on Hit-it-a-Ton, joining the ranks of major league baseball players such as George Brett, Mickey Mantle, Pete Rose and Sandy Koufax.

Zarda BBQ is a corporate sponsor for Hit it a Ton this year, and will donate a percentage of sales whenever someone orders the “Billy’s Ton of BBQ” sandwich at either the Lenexa or Blue Springs location throughout the entire 2012 Royals season. The media and public are invited to see Billy taste his new sandwich for the first time.

Bishop Sullivan Center operates two of the largest food pantries (6435 Truman Road & 3936 Troost) in Kansas City as well as a community kitchen. Over 1,000 families a month are helped with food through their pantries, and an average of 250 people a night a fed a hot meal. For more information please visit www.bishopsullivan.org.
