Some traditions are too perfect to tinker with – and for Zarda this includes feeding the Kansas City Chiefs at training camp – now for some 34 years in a row! A few of the many players that enjoyed a meal from Zarda Bar-B-Q included QB1 himself – Patrick Mahomes, Wide Receiver Mecole Hardman, future Hall of Fame Tight End Travis Kelce and Zarda’s very own “KC Takeaway” sandwich creator himself, L’Jarius Sneed.
So how much meat do the The Kansas City Chiefs eat? The answer is pretty spectacular! At 2022 Training Camp, Zarda served up 100lbs. of Award-Winning Ltd. Reserve Burnt Ends, 100 Slabs of Classic Ribs, 80lbs of Pulled Pork, and 25lbs of Smoked Turkey, and 75lbs of Beef Brisket. When the call went out to “Come get some!” there was no hesitation. These men were ready to eat!
And what’s a plate of bar-b-q without some savory sides? Zarda’s fan-and-player-favorite Cheesy Potato Bake, Ltd. Reserve Burnt End Baked Beans and creamy Mac-n-Cheese were all served – perfectly complimenting the many meats. Players also had a choice of a variety of Zarda’s specialty sauces including Original, Bold and Spicy, Apple Harvest, crowd-favorite Lil’Ghost and a few more to tantalize the team’s hot and hungry taste buds.
“Sometimes training camp for them is their first experience with Kansas City barbecue, and it’s fun to see them walk up and see what’s on the line with all these ribs, burnt ends, mac-n-cheese and the whole thing laid out – it’s an exciting time for them,” said Zarda C.O.O (and dyed in the wool Chiefs fan), Terry Hyer. Hyer went on to notes, “The vets know what’s coming. The rookies, they don’t know if they haven’t been here.”

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to make an incredible new sandwich – The KC Takeaway! L’ Jarius created this all-pro sandwich himself (along with a little help from his Zarda friends). At camp he had a special request – for Zarda to make one for him at camp!
Zarda was glad to oblige L’Jarius at camp – and is now delighted to sell the KC Takeaway at both area Zarda locations and 21 Metro and Lawrence Hy-Hyee stores (at their Hy-Vee Market Grille and Whalburgers locations). Better yet, a portion of the proceeds from the KC Takeaway will be donated in support of Sneed’s “Turn the Corner” campaign with Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City.
